A new study conducted at Brigham Young University has found that regular and high levels of exercise can slice off nine years from your biological age.

Though it isn’t an eternal youth, scientists have still discovered how human beings can slow the aging process and be able to shave a decade off their biological age. The answer is vigorous exercise.

Before I begin, Larry Tucker who is a science professor has something to say about biological age. He said, “If you are 40, this doesn’t mean you are 40 years old biologically.” He further added, “There are people in the world that appear younger than their actual age. The more we are active physically, the less biological aging takes place in your body.”

Biological age is basically about the telomeres, which are the protein caps at the end of chromosomes in your body and they help protect the day-to-day damage. Longer telomeres are associated with longevity while shorter with aging.

Needless to say that we’ve been teased since long with drugs, marijuana, and other natural remedies for anti-aging. But it appears that excessive exercise is the real remedy.

The study from Brigham Young University was published in Preventative Medicine and revealed that high levels of physical activity can shave off almost a decade from your biological age—at the cellular level—at the very least.

Professor Tucker’s study also found that individuals with more involvement in daily physical activities tend to have longer telomeres as compared to those who are moderately active or have a sedentary lifestyle.

How Excessive Should The Exercise Be?

According to this study, the amount of time prescribed for men is pretty high; 40 minutes. While for women it’s only 30 minutes. And this exercise includes jogging five days a week.
