OTTAWA - Federal health officials say Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (TSX: MFI) is recalling various breaded chicken products because they may contain a toxin produced by the Staphylococcus bacteria
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency states that the products concerned, which were sold in Ontario and Quebec, include Maple Leaf brand chicken breast bands in 840 grams packages with a date Before 20 April 2018.
Chicken burgers under the trademarks Sufra Halal and Mina Halal in packages of 828 grams are also recalled.
The CFIA says that food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not resemble or not spoil and that the toxin produced by the bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures.
Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and fever.
The CFIA says consumers with these recalled products should evict them or return them to the store where they bought. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
