Diana Johnston and Dana Smith will have something special to celebrate Mother's Day: the mother and daughter lost 110 pounds together.




Every woman has more than 55 pounds after Smith started losing weight last summer and Johnston joined his last fall.






"My mother kept seeing my weight come off and he kept coming and very soon she did not and she jumped [on board]", Smith, 41, who lives in Everett, Washington , Said today.




"I was so unhappy with myself and my weight, my knees hurt me, everything hurts me, I can not believe how much better I feel, just great," said Johnston, 65 Years, who lives near his daughter.




Women, who are both 5 feet 7, reported that their weight gain started after they started having children. Smith reached 230 pounds after hectic mornings with her children, meant that she would skip breakfast, then end up on the couch and relax on the food because she was so hungry. She does not eat meat, so she overloaded carbohydrates like pasta, chips and cereals.




Meanwhile, Johnston reached 265 pounds, accusing his sweet gesture of winning. "She was bad ... (sugar) was her thing," Smith said, recalling that his parents could buy a whole-sized cake and eat it for a few days.

The weight of Dana Smith reached 230 pounds.





Last July, Smith wanted to be overweight and out of shape. Her husband loves hiking, but she was unable to keep abreast and embarrassed to show her that she was suffering too much. She bought a Fitbit, started hiking with her children and began to focus on portion control. Today, she is a pro on the track.




"I just fell in love with hiking. This is one of the things we do in family now - it 's a reward, it' s really cool to be able to do it and Do not suffer too much and die, "she said.

Johnston was inspired to watch his daughter grow tense. But as she visited her grandchildren, she noticed that Smith was not asking her to take them anywhere because she knew it would be too hard for her mother with extra weight.

Diana Johnston, at the far right, was motivated to lose weight after watching the photos of herself at her son's wedding: "I was appalled at how I was fat, "she said.





"I could not participate and I decided that I could not do it. I am only 65 years old, I am not old. I do not want to be an old cripple sitting in a chair, unable to get out of it, "Johnston said." I just decided that is it.




With the two women encouraging each other, the quest for elongation has become easier. Here's how they lost weight:



1. The portion control is all



Johnston and Smith simply started eating smaller quantities and decided to stop eating as soon as they felt full. Pay attention to calories: go to half a burger, instead of everything. Limit yourself to a ladle of chili.




"We always eat things we want to eat, we just eat less," Smith said. "My husband is still going to make pizza, but he will make us small and lean."

2. Slowly reduce the sugar



Johnston, who still had this big sweet tooth, gradually started dropping candy. Now she has reduced the sugar of her diet and told her that she does not miss it: cravings have stopped.




"I just do not want that," she said. "I feel so much better, now I love shopping for clothes, I feel better, I feel better, I'm happier - it changes everything."




Smith was impressed: "I would never have thought that she would have given up candy".



3. Watch these snacks



At one point, Johnston complained that she was not losing weight. She said that Smith was only eating "a couple of pretzels", but she figured she probably ate five handfuls of them.




The lesson: if you want pretzels, count seven or eight years, take them out of the bag and hand over the bag. If the bag is open, you'll join it, Smith warned.

4. Eat breakfast and do not eat at night



Smith, who has always skipped breakfast, now ensures that she does not leave home without a good morning meal.




For Johnston, the big rule does not eat anything after 7 p.m. "I go to bed and I'm a little hungry and that is good".



5. Experiment with the exercise



In addition to hiking, Smith did home exercise from Monday to Thursday with 30-minute workouts on DVDs. Johnston does not like to exercise, but it aims to take at least 10,000 steps a day, whether by walking or walking in place.




"You could just see the light come back when his knee pain started to go away," Smith said. "Something simple as moving and weight loss can -"




"Make so much difference," Johnston finished the sentence.
